Children’s Librarian
Responsibilities:
- Engaging children in books and uses of the library,
- Attending district meetings and any workshops on children’s and young adult services
- Reviewing and ordering books and other materials for children
- Assessing the collection in an attempt to make improvements including weeding books that are out of date or in poor condition
- Advertizing library programs for children
- Assisting with location of materials for patrons
- Assisting with desk and other clerical duties
Tasks:
- Giving tours of the library for groups (school, scouts, etc.)
- Clerk duties: checking in and out of books, shelving books, reading shelves in children’s room
- Planning and executing all of the children’s programs
- Story Hour - 2 eight week sessions, fall and spring
- Write and Illustrate Your Own Book Contest
- Summer Reading Programs
- Infant/Toddler Read to Me Program - infants - 2 yr olds
- Kids - 3 groups, 3 and 4, 5 - 7, 8 - 12 yr olds
- Young Adult 12 - 19 yr olds
- Special Holiday Programs
Required: Bachelor’s Degree, experience working with children and development of library skills, excellent computer skills, energy, passion, knowledge of children’s literature, and programming expertise.
Pay and Benefits: 28 hours per week/$10.50 per hour, paid vacation and sick time, 9 paid holidays, retirement plan
